Hungary to start scholarship programme for young Middle East Christians
The Hungarian government is to launch a scholarship programme for young people from Christian communities suffering persecution in the Middle East, Human Resources Minister Zoltán Balog said on Friday.
Speaking at an international prayer breakfast in Berlin with politicians and religious leaders from over fifty countries in attendance, Balog said that Hungary has already started the application process to fill the 100 scholarships from September 1. They cooperate with local religious leaders in promoting the project, he said.
The Hungarian state also offers scholarships to several hundred Muslim students, Balog said. “They come to the country legally, respect our laws and culture and will become Hungary’s friends. It is worthwhile to cooperate with us in this orderly, respectful manner. All who respect Hungary’s laws and culture are welcome,” he said.
Balog called it a great honour to be the only foreign speaker at the prayer breakfast.
