International Energy Agency Could Move Headquarters to Budapest
Budapest, November 19 (MTI) – The International Energy Agency (IEA) could move its headquarters from Paris to Budapest in 2017, business daily Vilaggazdasag said on Wednesday.
The government has authorised the economy minister to offer the agency the use of a property in Budapest free of charge, the paper added.
In line with the government decision published in the official gazette Magyar Kozlony, if the agency accepts the offer, the minister will be responsible for refurbishing, installing and maintaining the property, and even for covering the costs of the agency’s move.
IEA’s director for public relations Greg Frost confirmed to the paper that the current lease of the headquarters in Paris would expire in 2017. The 29 member countries of the organisation are assessing various options for the period to follow and the board will make a decision in 2015, he added.
