How Happy Is Your Country? Find out on this map!

Are Hungarians really as discontent as the stereotypes say? Happy Planet Map, an immense survey helps us finding the truth, hvg.hu reports.

The project’s aim was mapping the ”happiness-index” of every single country, summarizing the given answers of each nation and creating a map which features the extent to which people are happy in a given state. Of course, the outcome should not be taken too seriously, as the answers were all very subjective and the actual full picture might be far from the one displayed by Happy Planet Map.

The data had been given by answers to questionnaires, so the ”happy” countries are those, whose residents answered that they are very happy in their countries, and those who were the least content with their residence, are the people of ”unhappy” countries, accordingly. The criteria of a happy country also includes the expected life span, the ecological footprint, and the standard of living and sustainable development.

Costa Rica ranked first, Columbia second, and Vietnam is the third happiest country in the world. Hungary conquered the 107th place, which does not seem very pleasant, but if we consider, that Hungary overtook the United States, this rank seems quite impressive. However, if we go into details, it seems that the stereotypes about the pessimistic Hungarians are true: they ranked their happiness in their country on the average of 4.7 (out of 10), while Americans seem to be much more content with their 7.2 rate.

It was the difference of the ecological footprint that resulted in Hungary overtaking the U.S.
