EU can succeed again with new leaders, says Orban in Seoul
Seoul, November 27 (MTI) – With its new leaders elected for five years, the European Union has got a chance to launch a sustainable and successful policy, Hungary’s prime minister said in Seoul today.
Viktor Orban gave a lecture about Europe’s situation, future and geopolitical challenges at Hankuk University, which has a Hungarian studies department.
With the new leadership, the continent could kick-start economic growth and regain its competitiveness and status in the world economy, he said.
Orban said that Europe should give calm and sober responses to the geopolitical challenges it faces.
Regarding the crisis in Ukraine, he reaffirmed the position that “there must be something between Russia and Hungary, namely a sovereign Ukraine.”
Orban said that Europe’s demography problem, which is seen as a “taboo” under the philosophical approach of “political correctness” on the continent, should be tackled by a sound policy promoting families rather than by facilitating immigration.
The prime minister characterized his government as patriotic, Christian and democratic, striving to build a labour-based society.
Orban said Hungary’s economy had been restructured since 2010. There are 4.1 million taxpayers in the country today and the aim is to increase their number to at least 5 million, he said.
Orban started a three-day visit to the Republic of Korea on Thursday.
He is scheduled to meet President Park Geun-hye and address a South Korea-Hungary business forum on Friday.
