Lake Velence: not just a beach
Lake Velence is the second choice for a holiday trip near water, after Lake Balaton, but the lake and it’s neighbouring area has much more to offer than just a beach adventure – scroll down to read nlcafe.hu’s tips on what to do there.
Lake Velence is especially popular because of its warm water: sometimes it is 26-28 Celsius degrees warm, making it one of Europe’s warmest lakes. People usually arrive here to relax on the sandy beaches, with many beaches like the Velence Korzó és Szabadstrand, which is a free beach, the Agárd Pop Beach, where concerts are held each summer, there is also an environment-friendly beach, the Gárdonyi Sport Beach, and many others. There is plenty to choose from apart from the aforementioned beaches if you’re interested in bathing and sunbathing.
The lake and the surrounding area is a perfect holiday destination both in the summer and in the winter. If the ice is thick enough, you can put on your skates and show off your skills on the frozen water surface!
However, the neighbouring area of the lake has many other options for you to choose from if you’re planning a holiday. For example, the Southern shore of the lake is very special for its thermal water and the surrounding fauna. It’s a great choice for those interested in hikes, even if you’re a newbie.
If you’re more into biking, then you’ll have plenty routes to choose from both if you want to feel like you’re in a road competition or if you want a challenge in the hills. The bicycle road is quite new and the routes offer you a great scenery. The Southern region is full of natural wonders, monuments and cultural treasures.
Not far from Lake Velence is Pákozd, one of the most historically important places in Hungary, a victory over the Turks took place here and an important battle of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848.
Pákozd is interesting for its historical value and the romantic small streets. Boat trips are very frequent here in the summer time, so you have plenty to choose from here as well.
