Foreign minister Szijjártó berates Schulz over Hungary PM remarks
Martin Schulz, the leader of Germany‘s opposition Social Democratic Party, “had better occupy himself with his own party” in light of its recent election defeats, the Hungarian foreign minister said in response to Schulz’s recent criticism of Hungary’s government and prime minister.
Péter Szijjártó reacted to comments Schulz made at a party congress on Sunday in Dortmund, suggesting that the “democratic, enlightened and tolerant” Europe for which former chancellor Helmut Kohl had fought was facing “new problems”, as EU governments such as the Hungarian government led by Viktor Orbán and Poland’s government “question” tolerance and openness to the world.
“Everything always reminds Schulz of the Hungarian prime minister, but he had better get to work on his own party after its three ignominious election defeats over the past few months,” Szijjártó said.
