Hungary, Slovakia presidents discuss energy security, econ cooperation
Bratislava, December 10 (MTI) – Hungarian President Janos Ader discussed with his Slovak counterpart Andrej Kiska achievements in the two countries’ economic cooperation and objectives in enhancing energy security, in Bratislava (Pozsony) today.
Ader is paying a day-long official visit to Slovakia at Kiska’s invitation.
Their talks focused on Hungarian-Slovak cooperation in central Europe.
Speaking at a joint press conference after the talks the presidents highlighted achievements in joint infrastructure development projects. They noted linking the Hungarian, Slovak and Czech power markets, as well as the project of the Hungarian-Slovak natural gas interconnector which is set to be operational in January next year.
They regarded the interconnector as an exemplary investment enhancing energy security.
Ader later visited the Hungarian-language Kodaly Zoltan secondary school and the Slovak-language Janko Matuska secondary school, which operate in the same building in Galanta, Slovakia.
Hungarian and Slovak teachers are rightly proud of each others’ work in light of their students’ performance, Ader said after visiting the school.
“Hungarians and Slovaks are connected with thousands and thousands of threads”, and many of these are economic ties, he said.
Addressing the school event, Kiska said the Hungarian and Slovak schools operating in close proximity are “an outstanding symbol of co-existence in our Slovakia” and proof that Hungarians and Slovaks together form a country where everybody wants to live well together.
