The design Christmas Tree becomes firewood, helps families in need
The pieces of the 11 meters tall and 4.5 meters wide tree are helping families in need, as the creators of the artwork donated the logs in order to secure heating for those who cannot afford to buy firewood.
The designers of Hello Wood, in collaboration with Design Terminal built an extraordinary Christmas Tree from wood, creating a festive sight at Erzsébet Square, in the centre of Budapest. The tree had drawn attention from all around the world, due to the shared posts, articles and photos featuring the donation tree circulating the internet.
The donation had been realized with the help of Hungarian Interchurch Aid, three families were able to get hold of firewood until now, and the organizations plan to give wood to 10 more. The Christmas tree is not only spectacular, but also serves its purpose in symbolizing the importance of solidarity and turning to each other, the creators told szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu.
The feeling of solidarity became tangible for impoverished families living in the Budapest area, so the twofold aim of the organizers had been realized. The Hungarian initiative may set an example for designers worldwide, as the story of the wooden Christmas Tree had become an international success. Nearly 200 websites thought that the story of the unusual tree is worth sharing, and among others, architecture journals like the The Creator Project, the Australian Design Institute and Archdaily wrote about the Hungarian project.
