Hungarian film Kincsem huge success in the USA too
Szeretlek Magyarország reports that Gábor Herendi’s film, Kincsem won several awards at the Wine Country Film Festival in California. The film was awarded as the Best International Film, as the movie with the Best Cinematography and Best Screenplay.
The Wine Country Film Festival took place a couple days ago in California, where Gábor Herendi’s film, Kincsem, cashed in three awards.
It was awarded as the Best International Film, Péter Szatmári’s work was awarded as the Best Cinematography, while the joint effort of Gábor Herendi and Bálint Hegedűs was recognised as the Best Screenplay.
It was the 31st occasion on which the festival was organised, screening 50 films, among them Kincsem. This was also Kincsem’s international debut. Over 444,000 spectators watched Kincsem in Hungary, thus becoming the most successful Hungarian film of the last decade.
The Hungarian National Film Fund’s sales department already screened the film to the international distributors at the Cannes film fair in May. Upon this screening, the Hollywood Reporter praised Herendi’s work, describing it as
a ‘lavish period melodrama’.
Kincsem will be surely screened in China, South Korea, Romania, The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine and Serbia, as an agreement was made with distributors in these countries. The film will also be screened at the Emirates flights. Several distributors from other countries are interested in the film and have ordered a copy for screening. Among these are the US, the UK and Germany.
