President Ader unveils statue of Hungarian priest in Fatima – Photos
Fatima (MTI) – President Janos Ader and Cardinal Peter Erdo, head of Hungary’s Catholic church, attended the unveiling of the statue of Lajos Kondor, a Hungarian priest who died in the Portuguese city in 2009.
Ader noted that Kondor had done much to turn Fatima into a pilgrimage site, setting up a Hungarian chapel and erecting the Hungarian Calvary in Fatima.
“Lajos Kondor served we Hungarians … and saw us as his compatriots and brethren throughout his life,” Ader said.
Following the unveiling, Cardinal Erdo blessed the statue
Paulo Fonseca, Fatima’s mayor, said Kondor had served as a bridge between Hungary and Portugal.
Earlier in the day, accompanied by his wife Anita Herczegh, Ader laid a wreath at Kondor’s tomb
