Prosecutor seeks life sentence for former Communist minister
Budapest (MTI) – The prosecutor has asked for life imprisonment for Bela Biszku, Hungary’s interior minister in Communist times, for the role he played in the retaliation that followed the anti-Soviet uprising in 1956.
Last year, a primary court sentenced Biszku to five years and six months in prison for war crimes in a non-binding decision. Both the 93-year old defendant, who pleaded innocent, and the prosecutor appealed the sentence.
The secondary decision is expected to be passed in May.
