Take a Christmassy ride through Budapest on the iconic light tram

Change language:
According to 24.hu, you can already ride the traditional Advent light tram (Fényvillamos) since it started circulating yesterday. The more than 50 years old Ganz UV tram decorated with 39 thousand white and blue LED lights primarily circulates on tram line 2, but you can also catch it in other parts of the city 😉
At the celebratory launch of the light tram, Tibor Bolla, president-managing director of BKV Inc. (Budapest Transport Company), said that this is the 9th year that the special tram lights up Budapest during Advent, Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
He emphasized that the operation of the three and a half kilometre long light string placed on the wagons costs no more than 100 forints/day (~EUR 0.3).

Kálmán Dabóczi, managing director of BKK Inc. (Centre for Budapest Transport), believes that the light tram forms an important part of the capital’s image and that it is a traditional attraction which aims to represent peace and understanding amidst stressful workdays.
