Consultation on ‘Soros plan’ attracts record interest

The government survey “national consultation” completed last week on the “Soros plan” attracted record high interest, the government spokesman said on Tuesday citing final figures received from the postal services.

A total of 2,332,755 questionnaires were returned by Friday’s extended deadline, including 2,154,264 submitted in printed form and an additional 178,491 online, Zoltán Kovács told a press conference.

The spokesman repeatedly expressed thanks to all who had sent in their answers and said the high participation reflected that this was a national issue which would determine the future of Hungary and the European Union in the long term.

The questions concerned not only the “Soros plan” but also migration in general, including its illegal form, he said.

The processing of the returned questionnaires will be completed in the next few days, he added.

This week’s events, including a hearing by the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) to be attended by Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, clearly demonstrate the intensity of the attempts of “Soros organisations” to “tramp over” and convince anti-migration governments and political forces to change their minds, he said.

US financier George Soros has now personally joined the campaign by expressing a wish to develop a rural network in Hungary.

This move is also aimed at changing Hungary’s policy on migration and toppling the government in office, Kovács said.

“It is clear that these rural organisations will also work towards promoting migration rather than halting it,” he added.

“I would like to remind everyone that it is political parties that run in the elections and, in line with the rules of democracy, those elected by the voters get a mandate to have a say in decision making. Any attempts to influence the elections by circumventing this go against the basic rules of democracy,” the spokesman said.
