Minority SafePack common European success
Support garnered by the Minority SafePack European Citizens’ initiative, which seeks European Union protection for indigenous national minorities in the bloc, is a huge achievement, a common European success, a senior government official said on Thursday.
Árpád János Pótápi, state secretary at the prime minister’s office, hailed that the initiative has received many more signatures than the one million required.
“Minority SafePack is a strong and unignorable message to the European Union that it should genuinely address the rights of communities living on its territory for centuries”, according to a statement by the prime minister’s office.
The initiative has cemented Hungarians in the Carpathian Basin into unprecedented unity. The initiative was “a common Hungarian, and a common European success”, the office said.
It expressed special thanks to the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN) and the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ) which launched the initiative, and Hungary’s Rákoczi alliance that coordinated the signature drive in Hungary.
