According to borsonline.hu, Budapest will be home to the set of yet another Hollywood blockbuster. The Avatar 2 cast will visit Budapest this summer to shoot certain scenes of the movie in the Hungarian capital.
A new addition to the cast is Kate Winslet, who has worked with James Cameron in the past on the Titanic movie. The Hungarian stunt double specialist, Gábor Piroch, will also work on the movie. He was in Charge of directing the action scenes of the Inferno movie, too, starring Tom Hanks. This time, he only had this to say to the readers:
I’m working on two projects in Hollywood at the moment. One of them is preparing for the Avatar 2 cast to come to Budapest to shoot.
He remained silent about the other project.
James Cameron, in an interview with Vanity Fair, revealed some details about the sequel. Avatar 2 will take place underwater, at least partially. About Winslet’s role, he had this to say:
She plays a character who’s part of the Sea People, the reef people. The one thing she did do is demand that she do all her own water work.
In order to do this, Winslet had to learn to free dive. Other cast members also had to overcome challenges like holding their breath for 3-4 minutes while acting out a scene involving some sort of sign language.
Cameron plans to make four more movies for the series, with Avatar 5 as the last instalment. It took a while until the perfect scripts were ready, but the actors know by now where their characters are going and what their role will be, even in Avatar 5. Luckily, Cameron is optimistic about the delay:
We weren’t wasting time, we were putting it into tech development and design … In a funny way it was to the benefit of the film because the design team had more time to work.
The next Avatar movies will deal with similar themes seen in the first one. The environment and the spirituality of the inhabitants of Pandora will still be important. Cameron believes that those who loved the first movie will love the sequels just as much.
Avatar 2 is expected to be released in December 2020, with Avatar 5 scheduled to appear in cinemas in 2025. However, delays can still happen, but Cameron promised the movies will come out eventually.
In the meantime, here’s another list of movies to be shot in Hungary – don’t miss these stars!
