Parliament’s economic cttee approves Bager Monetary Council nomination
Budapest, July 1 (MTI) – Parliament’s economic committee on Wednesday approved the nomination of Gusztav Bager as a candidate for membership on the central bank’s rate-setting Monetary Council.
Bager’s candidacy was approved with 10 yes votes and 5 abstentions.
Bager said at his hearing that “in the current moderate inflation environment”, the council’s most important task is aligning price stability with financial stability.
Bager obtained a degree in economics from the Karl Marx University of Economics in 1961. From 2003 to 2008 he was the director of the Research and Development Institute of the State Audit Office (ASZ) and is currently a professor at the Pazmany Peter Catholic University. He is a member of the Hungarian Writers’ Union, and received a Jozsef Attila Award in 2012.
