According to vg.hu, the series of records is continuing at the Budapest Airport: a larger-than-ever passenger traffic was recorded at the capital’s airport in the sixth month of the year. No less than 966 297 passengers arrived departed and arrived through the terminals of Budapest Airport in Hungary which is more than 100 000 persons more than in last year’s June.
The passenger traffic growth of Budapest Airport continues to be double-digit: this year’s June, the traffic was not only 11.8% stronger than this time last year, but there were even more passengers than in the July-August 2014 peak period last month. If this trend continues, the Hungarian capital’s airport is looking forward another record year, as regards the number of passengers. This forecast is also supported by that there was a 11.8%-increase in the first half of the year, which means almost half a million more passengers in the Hungarian capital.
The occupancy rate of airplanes was very high, the so-called load factor reached 81.3% and the number of air transport movements (take-offs and landings) also rose by 6.7%. The biggest turnover in June was transacted by Wizz Air, Ryanair, Lufthansa, easyJet, Norwegian, Germanwings, Air France, KLM, British Airways and Turkish Airlines. The sending and destination stations’ list is still led by London (five airlines offer flights to four airports), followed by Paris, Brussels, Frankfurt, Rome, Istanbul, Amsterdam, Milan, Munich and Moscow, vg.hu said.
In the first month of summer, several new flights and destinations appeared in the offer of Budapest Airport. Thus, for example, Wizz Air launched its new flight to Alghero, Sardinia and Glasgow, Scotland; and two new trans-Atlantic flights also launched by the courtesy of SkyGreece and Air Transat. The latter one flies with an Airbus 330 in the Toronto-Montreal-Budapest- route, and 240-340 passengers can travel in one plane, depending on the machine type and the seat arrangement.
Kam Jandu, Budapest Airport’s commercial director said this was the result of the work jointly carried out by the airlines. These efforts were maximally confirmed by the market, he said. The Canadian and Chinese flights are very popular and the traffic also increased on the flights to the Mediterranean destinations. According to him, Budapest and Hungary are becoming increasingly popular among young backpackers visiting festivals and the older passengers arriving to international waterways.
