Tourist boats to increase the capital’s hotel number

The results of tourism are encouraging, the sector has been growing dynamically for years – MTI recalled Ministry of National Economy, Deputy State Secretary responsible for Tourism from the Thursday program of M1 television channel, travelo.hu said.

There are less Russian tourists

Adam Ruszinko emphasized: it is more important than the growth in May that in the first five month of the year, 3.4 million guests spent almost 8 million overnight stays in the country, and they spent HUF 68 billion in the accommodation establishments. The number of guests increased by 8%, the number of overnights did by 6% and the spending increased by 10% – he said. The deputy secretary of state reminded: only in May, the accommodation fee revenue was about HUF 20 billion in the country.

There was a realignment among countries that send tourists to Hungary. For example, because of the Russian crisis late last year and early this year, fewer Russian tourists are coming to Hungary. The decline is about 30% in the number of guest nights. Last year, the most tourist coming to Hungary were Germans, Austrians and Russians. This year’s first five months, however, the number of British tourists significantly increased – there was a 26%-increase in the number of guest nights, so the British are the second behind the Germans and ahead of the Austrians. Italians are the fourth and Russians are just the fifth due to the decline, but keeping the Russian market is important for Hungary – the deputy secretary of state said.

More accommodations needed in the capital

Adam Ruszko stressed the organization of the Olympic Games can also be important for tourism, but in any case the event must be organized in such a way that the completed facilities can be utilized in the long run, for example in the aspect of accommodation utilization. He added: Hungary has a good reputation in the point of view of tourism. As an example, he said the accommodation capacity of the Hungarian capital has increased significantly and the occupancy is still favorable. This capacity can be expanded even further, since 20 thousand beds are missing in Budapest.

This expansion is imaginable partly by tourist boats. But it is possible in the perspective of enlargement – having regard to the proposed Olympics – to create campsites, caravans, mobile homes as well. It is important for Hungary and Budapest that they should be on the map of international tourism, for example in the context of the Olympics. The year-on-year organized Hungary Formula 1 race or the Red Bull Air Race are also important – Ruszko said.
