Budapest, July 17 (MTI) – The radical nationalist Jobbik party’s one single opponent will be ruling Fidesz in the next parliamentary election scheduled for 2018, Jobbik leader Gabor Vona said on Friday.
“Voters should decide in 2018 whether they want to live in the 20th or the 21st century. We recommend that we should live in the latter,” he told a press conference at Martonfa, a tiny village in southern Hungary marking its millennium.
“Should Jobbik form a government in that year, it will give priority to strengthening the national economy and regaining domestic markets for Hungarian products,” Vona said.
“It should be made clear in the various forums of the European Union that putting the Hungarian food industry back on its feet is key for us,” he said.
Jobbik advocates revising and amending the accession agreement and the basic treaties so as to restore Hungary’s sovereignty in food production, namely that it should be allowed to produce what it can for its own markets, he said.
Once in power, Jobbik will make every possible effort to improve the situation of villages and enable them to retain their population, Vona said.
