Budapest (MTI) – The Hungarian army on Saturday afternoon completed the first 175-metre “sample section” of the border fence near Hungary’s border with Serbia.
Construction on this section of the fence started on Monday with 43 soldiers involved in the work.
On this short section the army tested four different technologies, including the use of NATO razor wire, for the construction of the planned 4-metre high, 175-kilometre long fence.
Defense Minister Csaba Hende said earlier this week that the government would decide on the technology to use in the construction by next Tuesday, adding that the deadline to complete the fence is November 30.
On Friday border guards stopped a record high number of illegal entrants on the southern border, altogether 1,296 people, among them 238 children, police said.
