Eger Master Courses At The Vino Tasting Festival
Eger has always been one of the most popular destinations for wine lovers. The wine region known for its fruit driven and stylistically diverse wines is awaiting its fans with another enticing series of events including exclusive master courses.
The second Vino Tasting Festival taking place between 24-25 August 2018 welcomes visitors with a host of wine and food exhibitors, cultural events and concerts in the courtyard of the Bishop’s Palace adjacent to Eger’s main pedestrian street. The event also marks the beginning of the harvest period in the wine region.
The new location provides an elegant backdrop to the Festival which this year features not only local winemakers but also guest wineries from Tokaj. Tickets for the Festival also provide free entrance to the exhibitions at the Bishop’s Palace during the time of the Festival.
Great Eger Master Course
One of the highlights of the Festival is the Great Eger Master Course, featuring the rarely encountered flagship wines of eight wineries in the Events Hall of the Eger Bishop’s Palace.
The wines – some of them single variety, others blends – all hail from the best vineyards of the region and were vinified by their makers with the greatest care and dedication with no concessions. At the event the winemakers of the Egri Borműhely share their thoughts on what makes a wine important and unforgettable.
On Friday afternoon, 24 August visitors can taste the most illustrious wines of Bolyki Vineyards and Winery, Gál Tibor Winery, Juhász Brothers Winery, Petrény Winery, Soltész Winery, St. Andrea Vineyards and Winery, Thummerer Vineyards and Winery and Tóth Ferenc Winery.
Kékfrankos Master Course
On Saturday afternoon, 25 August, one of the leading varieties of the Eger wine region, kékfrankos takes centerstage at another seated tasting. Kékfrankos is an important variety either individually or as part of blends and of course it’s also the cornerstone of Egri Bikavér.
It is a variety famed for its elegant acidity and intense fruit flavours and is always full of surprises.
In addition 2018 is the Year of Kékfrankos, so it’s high time to acquaint ourselves with the many different styles this variety can display. Besides the numerous wines presented for tasting at the master course three young Eger winemakers, György Lőrincz Jr., Gergő Böjt and Péter Stumpf will give presentations describing and discussing the variety with youthful enthusiasm and firsthand experience.
