Kyrgyzstan’s development in Hungary’s interest, says Hungarian foreign minister
The economies of Central Asian countries are developing at a fast rate and reaping the rewards of this boom is in Hungary’s interest, Péter Szijjártó, the foreign minister, said on Tuesday.
Countries in the region have been investing in tourism as highly attractive destinations, but they are also promoting visits by their own citizens to Europe, Szijjártó told public media, noting that Hungary has signed a tourism cooperation agreement with Kyrgyzstan.
In the context of EU cooperation, Szijjártó said that
Hungary supports the renewal of the bloc’s 1990 agreement with Kyrgyzstan and also backs increasing its 184 million euro financial framework in order to preserve its stability.
Szijjártó also noted the 65 million dollar credit line Hungary has opened to promote cooperation between the two countries’ businesses.
As we wrote yesterday, Hungary has been granted observer status in the International Turkic Academy, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said after taking part in a foreign ministerial meeting of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States in Bishkek, read more HERE.
Szijjártó awarded state honour by Kyrgyz foreign minister
Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Erlan Abdyldayev on Monday awarded his Hungarian counterpart, Péter Szijjártó, a high state decoration for promoting cooperation between the two countries.
Holders of the decoration include Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Hungary has been growing steadily recently, especially in the pharmaceuticals industry, water management, agriculture and environmental protection, the ministry’s statement said. Hungarian exports to Kyrgyzstan jumped by 51 percent to 5 million dollars in the first half of 2018, it said.
Ties are also strengthening in the fields of education, culture and science, with Hungary raising the number of grants offered to Kyrgyz students to 75 from 25, the ministry said.
