Budapest (MTI) – The number of young gamblers has reached a critical level despite a law banning people under 18 from such activities, daily Magyar Nemzet reported on Saturday, citing a recent study.
The survey revealed that fully 40 percent of youngsters between 15-18 gambles regularly online, often assisted by older family members.
The survey has also found, however, that the number of people addicted to gambling has dropped to between 100,000-120,000. Thirty percent of that group also suffers from excessive smoking or depression, while 25 percent of them have had alcohol or drug related problems. Ten percent of them have been dismissed from their jobs because of their addiction, according to the study.
The paper added that most of those in question will say they are not addicts and will typically not seek any form of assistance.
