More than 100,000 young Hungarians in employment promotion scheme

More than 100,000 young Hungarians not employed or in education have taken part in the government’s Youth Guarantee jobs programme, the finance minister said on Tuesday.
The government considers the reduction of youth unemployment a priority and has earmarked more than 240 billion forints (EUR 741.7m) for the scheme, Mihály Varga told MTI.
Under the programme, launched with European Union support available during the 2014-2020 funding cycle, unemployed Hungarians under the age of 25 who are not enrolled in school may apply to be placed in jobs or vocational training.
Of the more than 100,000 young people who have participated in the scheme, some 68,000 have been placed in jobs and 33,000 in training programmes, Varga said.
The minister said the scheme has contributed significantly to reducing youth unemployment to 10 percent from 30 percent since 2010.
The youth employment rate has risen by 10.7 percentage points during the period compared with the EU average of 0.7 points, he added.
