Russian art focus of Budapest Spring Festival
Russian art will be the focal point of the 39th Budapest Spring Festival held between April 5 and 22, the organisers told a press conference on Wednesday.
The festival will host concerts, ballet, opera and theatre performances featuring Spanish conductor and viol player Jordi Savall, the Ballet of the Theater Basel, pianist Kirill Gerstein and tenor Joseph Calleja, the director of the Budapest Palace of Arts, Csaba Kátavsel, said.
A semi-staged performance of Mussorgsky’s opera Khovanshchina will open the festival.
Closer to home, guitarist Ferenc Snetberger, singer Klára Kolonits and pianist Fülöp Ránki are also in the lineup.
The newly revamped Museum of Fine Arts will offer an exhibition on Michelangelo’s drawings, he said.
The festival is funded jointly by the Budapest city council and the government.
