From today: One of Europe’s most beautiful Christmas markets returns to Budapest!

The Budapest Advent and Christmas Fair welcome visitors from the 9th of November 2018 to the 1st of January 2019. You can get a taste of the delicious Hungarian gastronomy, buy prize-winning handcrafted or produced pieces of art, or enjoy Christmas productions. All you have to do is visit the beautiful Vörösmarty Square in Budapest and explore the market for yourself.

According to programturizmus.hu, the Christmas market on Vörösmarty Square dates back to 1998 and attracts about 3-4 thousand tourists every year. It is on the list of the 10 most beautiful Christmas markets in Europe. There are traditional as well as modernised folklore- and industrial art type souvenirs on offer, while designs are also crucial. To ensure excellent quality, the products – be it a handcrafted object, a small gift or a trendy but refined gastronomic speciality – that can be sold to customers are overviewed by an independent jury.

The tasty dishes are made from carefully selected local ingredients, while there are also handcrafted desserts and drinks on offer. The vendors on Vörösmarty Square have been coming to Hungary for years, so they are trustworthy and have a real mission to represent the values of gastronomy and the traditions of Christmas within the Carpathian Basin. Visitors can attend gastro-shows or get a sample of various speciality foods.

Each week of the market will have a different theme: there will be weeks for goose-, stuffed cabbage- and fish-based meals, among others.

There will also be a chance to eat meals that comply with fasting rules, while the tastes of Hannukah can also be sampled.

Of course, you need a drink to be able to keep up with all the different foods you have to try. Representatives of Hungarian wine regions will be present, so you can choose the drink that most appeals to you. The best thing about Hungarian wine is that it is authentic and accessible, so it is a real treat for both tourists and Hungarians. Apart from these, Hungarian specialities like chimney cakes, roasted chestnuts, gingerbread, bejgli and flódni will also be sold at the fair.

On the stage, jazz, blues, soul and folklore concerts will entertain the crowds, both during the week and on weekends. Children may find puppet shows or singing and dancing performances interesting. From December, they can also participate in making candles, baking gingerbread, trying beadwork or even felting and weaving baskets, all this in a heated cabin.

There will be many other events worth visiting, like the ceremonial candle lighting on the giant wreath
