Economy Minister: Hungary-Iran economic ties set to expand
Budapest (MTI) Hungary’s economy minister negotiated with a senior Iranian official on ways to expand economic ties between the two countries, the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
Mihaly Varga met Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Iranian deputy foreign minister in charge of European and US relations, and they welcomed the nuclear agreement signed in Vienna on July 14 that is expected to lead to the dismantling of sanctions, “which could open a new chapter in relations” between Hungary and Iran.
Talks focused on several conventions in progress, including an agreement on double tax avoidance.
Varga said that preparations for an agreement on Hungary-Iran investment protection is under way as well as another on inter-governmental economic cooperation.
Hopes were expressed at the meeting that general ties between the two countries would expand following the dismantling of sanctions.
