Drug raid: police caught members of a mafia in Budapest – spectacular video
The gang sold a new kind of psychoactive substance, and they had two distribution centres on Corvin promenade and on Darányi Ignác Street in the 18th district. Budapest police officers and agents of the Counter-Terrorism Centre appeared on both venues on March 12 and took five people into custody.
Detectives arrested three people on Corvin promenade, a 38 and 20-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman. They worked in two flats of the residential park, and police found 288 loaded cigarettes and rolling paper enough for almost 1,500 cigarettes. Furthermore, there were 11 grams of yellow powder, which is suspected to be a new kind of drug, and more than 600,000 HUF (EUR 2000) cash. Moreover, police officers seized a Mercedes land rover which they suspect the gang used to commit the crimes – szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu reported.
Here, you can watch a video about the action:
At the same time, police officers arrested the fourth member (31) of the gang in the 18th district of Budapest, on Darányi Ignác street. There, they found similar materials; four packets of white powder, cash tainted with drugs, syringes and tools used to make the cigarettes.
The fifth member of the circle (38) was arrested in the morning of the same day in Pestszentlőrinc, not far from the Határ Road underground station.
All members of the gang were taken into custody and were interrogated later. The police started the investigation because of trafficking with new psychoactive substances.
Drug raids happen quite frequently nowadays in Budapest. In October, we reported that police took 14 people into custody on suspicion of drug trafficking and abuse of a new psychoactive substance. Initially, 29 people were arrested during a raid in Budapest’s 10th district. Six people were questioned as suspects on the charge of drug possession. Police searched apartments during the raid and seized around 10 grammes of white powder suspected to be a drug, about 17 grammes of plant matter and over 1.5 million forints (EUR 4,600).
We reported about a Brazilian woman in February who tried to smuggle 3 kgs of cocaine in condoms into Hungary. She then confessed to the police that she needed the money, that is why she agreed to carry the bag from Brazil to Hungary. In fact, it was not the first time that criminals tried to smuggle huge quantities of drugs into Hungary. For example, one Nigerian and one Somalian man smuggled tonnes of drugs between 2015 and 2016 from Kenya to Budapest. Of course, the opposite happens as well. We reported before about Krisztián, a Hungarian drug smuggler, who spent five years in a Peruvian prison for that reason. According to him, in 2017, when he was set free, almost three dozens of Hungarian drug smugglers were imprisoned in Peru.
