Hungary runs ads in Lebanon, Jordan media warning off migrants
Budapest, September 21 (MTI) – The Hungarian government posted a number of full-page advertisements in several Lebanese and Jordanian newspapers on Monday warning migrants that crossing Hungary’s border illegally is punishable by imprisonment.
The warnings were posted in both English and Arabic in the Lebanese daily An-Nahar and the Jordanian Rai al-Gadd among others. The messages say “Hungarians are hospitable but the strongest possible action is taken against those who attempt to enter Hungary illegally”.
The message warns potential migrants not to listen to people smugglers and that “Hungary will not allow illegal immigrants to cross its territory”.
