EU should base migrant crisis solution on Hungarian model, says Szijjarto
Budapest (MTI) – The European Union should look to Hungary when seeking a solution to the migrant conflict, the foreign minister said in Bekescsaba, in southeast Hungary, on Saturday.
Hungary is the only country that “observed to the letter the European Council’s requirement to keep all European Union rules on the Schengen passport-free zone and the Dublin Regulation on asylum seekers’ applications during the migrant crisis,” Peter Szijjarto said. The EU must quickly find a solution for the crisis or risk a deeper conflict that could “deeply scar” neighbhouring countries, he added.
The government is tracking changes to migration routes and will build a temporary barrier along Hungary’s border with Romania, if necessary, he said, responding to a question by MTI. At present, there is no wave of migrants entering Hungary from Romania, he added.
