Jobbik MP Farkas indicted on charges of election fraud
Hungary’s central investigating prosecutor has raised charges against Jobbik lawmaker Gergely Farkas for election fraud.
In the 2018 general election campaign, Farkas is suspected of having offered to “reimburse the costs” of around 600,000 forints (EUR 1,800) to an opponent, a candidate of the green opposition LMP party, if that candidate dropped out of the race, prosecutors noted in a statement on Monday.
After parliament suspended Farkas’s immunity in March, he was questioned by prosecutors as a suspect.
The Jobbik‘s lawmaker denies any wrongdoing.
As we wrote on July, Jobbik lawmaker János Bencsik has raised the suspicion of potential fraud ahead of the autumn local elections in light of the recent purchase of T-Systems, a subsidiary of Hungarian Telecom, by 4iG. Read more HERE.
