Budapest, November 11 (MTI) – The public prosecutor has raised charges against a Spanish man who smuggled 4.5 kgs of cocaine to Hungary hidden in a rucksack and a suitcase, the chief municipal prosecutor’s office said on Wednesday.
The 46-year-old man had been paid 5,000 euros by someone in Malaga to transport the drugs from South America to Europe, the statement showed. He had to first travel to Holland where he received detailed instructions, travel documents and the cash needed to buy the drugs in Brazil. He collected the 4.5 kgs of cocaine and travelled with it initially to Dubai where he changed flights to Budapest on March 1. He was told that he would receive further instructions in Budapest by phone from a person whose identity the investigation has failed to reveal, the statement said.
The drugs were found in the man’s luggage when he tried to cross the green corridor into Hungary at Liszt Ferenc Airport.
The suspect has been held in pre-trial detention for possession of large quantities of drugs.
