Purchasing of midi buses are only a part of the renewal of Buda Castle, last year, roads were renovated where these buses will run – Deputy Mayor Balazs Szeneczey said when the new vehicles were handed over on Thursday.
Vancin Kitapci, Director of Karsan Pazarlama, which supplies the Karsan ATAK type buses, said that the company is one of the leading bus manufacturers of Europe, thousands of their buses run around the world.
The Budapest Transport Center (BKK) and the Budavar Local Government initiated procurement proceeding in 2013 for acquisition of the 16 buses. The cost was HUF 909 million which was entirely funded by EU supports. If there will be more sources, 24 additional midi buses can be ordered from the Turkish supplier.
The first two midi buses arrived in Budapest in September and 14 came in October.
The midi buses are low-floor, air-conditioned; they have wheelchair ramps and are driven by EURO 6 class diesel engine. They emit 37.5% less pollutants and harmful substances than the former ones, and they also have lower energy consumption. 39 people can travel in the bus at one time; the number of seats is 21.
