LMP turns to Strasbourg court over parliamentary silencing
Budapest, November 22 (MTI) – Hungary’s LMP party is turning to the Strasbourg court of human rights with a complaint against the house speaker, Laszlo Kovacs, who silenced LMP co-leader Bernadettt Szel during a parliamentary session in July.
Szel said in a statement on Sunday that the speaker, delegated by the ruling Fidesz party, had already lost a lawsuit in Strasbourg in a similar case.
Last September, the court ruled in the first instance that the Hungarian state trammeled freedom-of-speech rights of LMP and PM party lawmakers when the speaker imposed a fine for various perceived offences.
