Hungary wants satisifed, stong UK in reformed EU, says state secretary

Budapest, November 23 (MTI) – Hungary wants to see the UK satisfied and strong in a reformed European Union because this would work to the benefit of the Hungarian government, the state secretary for European affairs said on Monday.
Addressing a forum organised by the foreign affairs institute and the British Embassy in Budapest, Szabolcs Takacs said the Hungarian government was in nearly full agreement with the direction set by Britain’s proposals which it believes will make the EU stronger and more competitive.
Hungary has been open to cooperation ever since the time Britain first presented its proposals, Takacs said. It is open to proposals on amending the basic treaties and will be a constructive and pragmatic partner as long as the proposals involve no discrimination, he added.
The EU needs to face realities and meet the expectations of its citizens, he said.
