Factors and opportunities that lure Hungarian workers abroad
While physical work is paid more in the country, the wave which invites Hungarian workers and experts to Western Europe does not seem to be coming to an end. These workers are invited to foreign countries for millions, even billions in salary, free accommodation, and other bonus factors.
Pénzcentrum reported that inside the European Union, no registration process is needed for individuals to start a new job in foreign countries. Statistics revealed that between 2007 and 2016, seventy thousand Hungarians left the country each year.
In 2017, this number was 87,000.
After Hungary joined the European Union in 2004, approximately one million Hungarians decided to try their luck in foreign countries. On the other hand, it is hard to estimate how many of them returned, as the measurement process of immigration is harder than emigration. Not only our region, but Western Europe also suffers from unemployment, which is due to the factor of the countries’ ageing society.
In previous years, even complete industries were established to find available employees from Central and Eastern Europe. The offer is simple: hundreds and millions in salary and excellent working conditions.
Most of these advertisements do not even require high-level knowledge of foreign languages, and some of them even offer free meals. In Austria, with an average of 160 hours of working/month, individuals can earn 2,080 EUR. This salary includes blue and white-collar jobs. In Germany, the average salary someone can get is approximately 2,400 EUR (depends on the actual job). Some blue-collar jobs in industries and factories offer 3,000 EUR.
In one of Munich’s hospitals, with a strong B2 knowledge of the German language, the offered salary is 4,500 EUR. In the Netherlands, the town of Dongen is awaiting engineers for 3,500 EUR/month and junior software developers for 3,484 EUR.
