Budapest – New trend in Hungary’s dental tourism!
During the last decade, Hungary has become the number one destination among Western European tourists searching for dental services within Europe. Even though the majority of Hungarians complain about how expensive private dental surgeries are, for Western European people, it is still worth the price of buying flight tickets and getting the necessary dental treatments in Hungary. Furthermore, a new trend in dental tourism can be experienced nowadays.
For purposes of comparison, let’s see why Budapest has become the capital of dental tourism. In England, the so-called ’all-on-4’ denture fitting including 4 implants for fixed dentures would cost EUR 13,700 at a private clinic. As a result, the majority of patients decide to search for a reputable dental clinic in Budapest, which can be accessed for an affordable price including flight tickets, accommodation, and dental treatments in the Hungarian capital.

As mfor.hu reports, the most popular dental prosthesis treatments are the relatively expensive tooth implant and major root treatments; however, traditional types of surgeries are also popular.
After the operation, the implantation needs 3-6 months to get fixed, so the patient needs to visit Budapest at least twice.
The situation is similar in the case of root treatments as well – the process does not end in one session. At least one week is needed between the two treatments so that the doctor can make sure that the inflammation has been permanently removed. Furthermore, it might happen that the process lasts for 2-3 weeks before the root canal treatment reaches its end.
However, a real dental tourist uses this period to combine their visit with some leisure activities and gets to know Budapest better. By the end of the treatment, they have visited the most important parts of the capital and have travelled around the area, taking the memories of many pleasant experiences with them.
Therefore, professional dentists also pay attention to offering interesting and exciting programs for their patients. They collaborate with several hotels and tour guides and even provide personal coordinators to their patients who are at their disposal during their stay and meet their requests to make their experiences even more unforgettable.
In Hungary, medical tourism is practically equal to dental tourism. When considering Europe, Budapest has a share of 40% of dental tourism within the entire continent. For this reason, Budapest can be reasonably called “the European Capital of Dental Tourism.“
However, the Hungarian hegemony is increasingly threatened by Polish, Romanian, Bulgarian, and Turkish dental clinics which are supported by the state. An additional speciality is that 9 out of 10 medical tourists come with the purpose of dental care; as a result of which Hungarian medical tourism can be identified with dental tourism.
