Picasso, Modigliani and the Russian avant-garde in Budapest next year

Among other things Russian avant-garde, Picasso, Modigliani and Lili Orszag exhibitions will open in the Hungarian National Gallery next year, Laszlo Baan told MTI, maszol.ro wrote.

The Museum of Fine Arts close its doors in mid-February after the exhibition about Rembrandt and the Dutch golden century, visited by more than 250 thousand people. Nowadays, the largest renovation of the recent years is taking place in the building. After that the audience can visit the Roman hall, which closed 7 years ago, again. The museum will have new exhibition spaces and some of the public spaces will also be renewed – the Director General reported.

This year, the staff and the exhibitions of the museum has been moved to the National Gallery, where you can see a selection of the major works of the Museum of Fine Arts. The most outstanding creations of the museum and the gallery will be exhibited abroad as well: currently in Milan and Rome, next year in the Musee du Luxembourg in Paris – Laszlo Baan said.

A large-scale exhibition series are planned for the 110^th birth anniversary of Viktor Vasarely in Aix-en-Provance in 2016. The Viktor Vasarely Museum also joins this event.

There will be other cooperations as well: the Hungarian National Gallery brings a classical Hungarian art exhibition to the National Museum in Krakow. The Italian and Netherlandish works of the Budapest museum will be exhibited in Brussels while a Dutch collection of the Museum of Fine Arts will be moved to Haarlem, maszol.ro wrote.

According to Laszlo Baan, from January to May, the Russian avant-garde collection of the Yekaterinburg Art Museum comes to the National Gallery.

A retrospective exhibition will be opened of the works of Pablo Picasso in the spring and one of the works of Amedeo Modigliani soon thereafter.

On the occasion of the 90^th birth anniversary of Lili Orszag, a retrospective exhibition will be opened in December 2016.

The architectural tender will be put up for the construction of the Ethnographic Museum’s new building in December. 15 designers will be invited, Ministerial Commissioner Laszlo Baan said.

He also pointed out that the Museum of Fine Arts and the National Gallery are the major beneficiaries of the Hungarian National Bank’s art acquisition program, due to which the collection has been increased with important artifacts, including the works of Titian, Vaszary, Gulacsy, Moholy-Nagy and the material of Artpool Art Research Center.
