First double-decker train takes off in Hungary – PHOTOS
The first double-decker train in Hungary took off on its first test run on Sunday, from Budapest to Cegléd.
Tamás Schanda, Secretary of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, held a press conference at Nyugati station. He said that 2020 is a new age for trains, new double-deckers will be put on the rails progressively, starting in the spring, according to Startlap.
As Daily News Hungary reported before, the first train was scheduled to transport passengers on March 15, and another seven would start in June, and the rest of them in August.
In April 2017, Máv-Start signed an eight-year agreement with Stadler for 40 trains with 600 seats each. This would provide passengers of the railway company with 24,000 more seats. The 40 new trains will cost over €580 million.
The trains will have air conditioning, Wi-Fi, outlets to charge phones and laptops. They will have three traditional bathrooms and one for people with disabilities, and they will be able to store four wheelchairs, and five strollers or 12 bicycles.
Budapest’s suburban transportation will be provided by KISS, FLIRT and DESIRO vehicles by the end of 2022. The repairs and the new vehicles will help with things such as more punctual transportation and better schedules, as well as help evenly balance the suburban lines.

How about a normal train from city center to tge fucking airport?? Take more than one hour to get from public transportation to your airport
In the past (3) three weeks, from our house in District v, we walked/pulled our cases to the bus stop at Deak Ferenc and caught the totally efficiently run BKK to Ferenc Liszt Airport.. We have the fortunate situation to live (6) six minutes from the airport bus starting point BUT it betters our place of destination and departure being Tullarmarine International Airport, Melbourne,,Victoria Australia. The public transport services from this International Airport, that in 2019 had 17 million people use it’s facility, is APPALLING and quite 3rd world if I was to use that explanation as an example. It will happen sooner than later in Budapest – in the next decade which considering the Melbourne fiasco that has been on-going since 1965, that plans have been “on the table” for Tullarmarine Airport to have a direct rail line and some say (50) fifty years on in a City / State of 6 million people with a annual population increase of over 2 per.cent annually, they FAIL to turn a sod of soil to commence a direct rail City – Airport Rail connection. Budapest will not be 50 plus years on waiting for a direct Central City to Airport Rail link.
Welcome to the past! These trains are in use in the EU since 1996! 😀
