Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline of Central and Eastern Europe, continued its expansion in 2015 by establishing a new base, opening a new maintenance hangar, buying new airplanes and launching new flights. The company strengthened its position as the leading airline in Hungary, profitline.hu told.
According to Jozsef Varadi, CEO of the company, Wizz Air is Hungary’s leading airline, and the number of their passengers increased by 12% in 2015 compared to last year.
Varadi said that the buying of two Airbus A321ceo was one of the most important milestones of the company’s Hungarian operation. Now there are 9 airplanes in Budapest and 1 in Debrecen.
The 10th Budapest-based aircraft will arrive during the year. Wizz Air also opened its base in Debrecen and launched new flights to Paris Beauvais, Malmo and Brussels Charler as well as increased the frequency of the existing flights to London Luton, Milan Bergamo and Eindhoven destinations. The annual capacity grew by 136%, to 145 thousand.
According to profitline.hu, the newest flights from Budapest are Tenerife, Glasgow, Bologna, Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden, Baku, Nice, Ibiza, Liverpool and Reykjavik. In addition, Wizz Air is going to launch 3 special flights for fans of the Hungarian national football team for the June matches in Bordeaux, Lyon and Marseille. Currently, the company offers low-cost journeys to 23 countries’ 52 cities.
