Awards granted in London to mark Day of Hungarian Culture
London, January 20 (MTI) – Choral conductor Peter Broadbent and architect Sandor Vaci have been awarded the Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic, Officer’s Cross at an event marking the Day of Hungarian Culture in London.
The awards granted at the Hungarian embassy are to recognise their work promoting Hungarian culture and Hungarian-British relations in the UK.
Broadbent, who founded the Joyful Company of Singers (JCS) chamber choir in 1988, received the Pro Cultura Hungarica award in 2006. He is a dedicated fan of the contemporary Hungarian choral repertoire and an expert performer of Bela Bartok’s works.
Vaci, a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects, is a proponent of Hungarian organic architecture. In the past ten years, he researched the UK relations of 19th century Hungarian statesmen Count Istvan Szechenyi, especially with the English civil engineer William Tierney Clark who designed Budapest’s landmark Chain Bridge.
