Coronavirus – Further 10 die, 3,111 registered cases in Hungary
A further 10 people, all of whom had underlying illnesses, have died in Hungary, bringing the total number of fatalities to 373, while the number of registered coronavirus infections has increased by 46 to 3,111, koronavirus.gov.hu said on Wednesday morning.
Fully 759 patients have recovered. Currently 964 coronavirus patients are hospitalised, 50 of whom are on ventilators. Fully 10,628 people are under official home quarantine. The number of tests carried out stands at 86,743.
The website noted that the aim now is to resume normal life gradually and according to a strict schedule, so full restrictions still apply in the most heavily infected areas, Budapest and Pest County.
Elsewhere, physical distancing and a variety of other rules still apply.
Budapest tops the list of registered infections (1,528 people) , followed by Pest County (410), Fejér County (310) and Komárom-Esztergom County (148). Vas County has the fewest (14) infections in Hungary.
Hungary aims to ensure enough protective equipment against COVID-19
Hungary’s goal is to have sufficient health protective equipment for those working on the front line at all times, Tamás Menczer, state secretary from the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said here on Tuesday.
“Since the outbreak of the epidemic, about 100 million masks and 56 million other protective equipment — such as gloves and protective suits — have arrived to Hungary,” Menczer told on public television channel M1.
“The acquisition of the equipment is continuous, because there is currently no vaccine against the virus, so you have to be prepared for long,” he added.
Menczer admitted that there is competition for protective equipment procurement, as many countries in the world in dire need of these protective gears.
On Monday, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó dismissed press reports that Chinese supplies fell short of European standards, insisting all protective equipment from China did meet the standards.
