Hungarian billionaire Bige might face imprisonment for criminal activities

One of the wealthiest Hungarians and owner of a sulfuric acid factory László Bige has been on the watchlist of authorities since 2018. Now the police finally came to a decision and fined Bige with paying back 373,000 EUR and imprisonment for his actions.

24.hu reported that last year Bige was even taken to the police and kept there for forty-eight hours when his case started to peak. According to Forbes Magazine, his fortune decreased from 300 million EUR to 250 million in one year, making him the 14th richest Hungarian in the country. However, the money and wealth was not the primary concern of Bige in the last few months.

In November 2018, 300 police officers and other authorities rushed to Bige’s factory to search for the clues of criminal actions, and signs of illegal pollution coming from the establishment. The factory was eventually shut down immediately, but the Hungarian authorities did not share the exact reasons and the clues they have found.

Bige stated that the person behind the whole effort could be another wealthy Hungarian, Sándor Csányi, who aimed to force Bige to sell him the factory. The police later searched the Hungarian businessman’s house, and Bige was taken under arrest for corruption and illegal polluting waste management.

According to the official documents and the indictment, Bige earned 373,000 EUR from one of the partners of his factory. As it turned out, the Hungarian businessman did not receive this money for his establishment, but simply put the money into his pockets. 

The Hungarian Public Prosecution asked for a fine and imprisonment for Bige for his actions. Furthermore, another case reappeared regarding the Hungarian businessman in which he allegedly sold products to partners and investors beyond the market price.
