On this weekend: Retro Snow Festival in the Mátra Mountains
It is the third time that lovers of winter sports get to feel nostalgic and compete at the Mátra Ski Classic retro ski and snowboard competition which is held in the Skipark of Mátraszentistván. Vilagjaromagazin.hu writes that on the 30th of January, besides time travel, visitors can also enjoy the colourful programmes of the Snow Festival.
The third Mátra Ski Classic retro ski and snowboard competition is going to be held on Saturday, as part of the three day long Snow Festival, at the last weekend of January. You can enter the competition and buy tickets from 9 am, because the downhill ski race starts at 1 pm on slope N°5. The event is an entertaining programme with sport value that aims to introduce visitors to the Hungarian history of this type of sport, to its technical development in the last century and also to pay tribute to the pioneers of the Hungarian ski culture.
“The retro ski programme is more of a fun event than a serious competition since, according to the rules, anyone can try out authentic dresses and equipment from the past. You can enter at the location until noon, or previously via email. The entry fee costs 3500 forints which contains a ski ticket for the whole day and a start package with surprises from our sponsors.
One thing that is new this year is that there are four categories to enter: one category with veteran equipment which contains skis made of antique metal ties or authentic wood with jess and clothing that was typical in the beginning of the century; another category with equipment made before 1995 which contains skis, ski boots, authentic clothing, retro snowboard and for the first time, bigfoot or carvelino skis” said Zsolt Tihanyi, the organiser of the event. He added that “the determination and the happiness of the competitors created a very good mood in the previous events and I’m hoping for the same atmosphere this year as well!”
According to vilagjaromagazin.hu, the competition is followed by a ceremony where the winners of the categories get awarded, but there’s going to be something for all competitors. The host of the Snow Festival is going to be Feri Rákóczi, the presenter of Class FM, who is going to entertain the visitors. There’s going to be exciting concerts and performances on the main stage like Viktor Király on Friday, Bogi and the Berry band on Saturday afternoon and Balázs Beliczai’s stand-up comedy show after the retro competition. Visitors and performers can all try out the different types of authentic equipment.
