Corvinus University rector orders probe into controversial preparation course questions
Budapest (MTI) – The rector of Budapest Corvinus University has ordered an investigation into its university preparation programme for secondary schoolers after university students in charge of a class assigned a series of trigonometry questions in their group containing jokes about Roma.
On Tuesday the daily Népszabadság reported that the jokes “had nothing to do with the course material” itself and were included on the worksheet solely “for entertainment purposes”.
The university released a statement saying that it “deeply condemns” the jokes inserted into the programme’s exercises along with all forms of discrimination. The university said it has asked Studium Generale (SG), the student organisation running the programme, to do everything it can to prevent such incidents in the future.
SG also released a statement condemning the jokes. The organisation said the student who assigned the exercises in question was suspended with immediate effect. SG said it has launched its own internal investigation into the matter.
