WOW! Hungarian dog breed vizsla of the national tax authority found hidden money!

Cappy, the vizsla of the National Tax and Customs Administration of Hungary (NAV), found 100 million HUF (EUR 282 thousand) hidden by two men living in Budapest and running a company network specialised in tax evasion.

According to Index, the company network giving work for more than 1.5 thousand security guards and cleaners caused damages worth billions of HUF for the Hungarian budget. Police have been searching for one of the men running the network since 2011 because of fraud while the other one has already been brought to court before for bribery. Agents of the NAV raided the gang yesterday and

immediately took the two men into custody.

The scheme of the gang was that they accepted cleaning and safekeeping duties as general contractors, but they hired subcontractors for that. However, the subcontractors did nothing more than issue invoices to allow the general contractor to avoid VAT payment. Behind the invoices, there was no work.

With the help of that scheme, they caused 1.4 billion HUF damage to the national budget. One of the men’s task was to be in contact with business partners and to withdraw the money their clients transferred to their account. However,

he did not use a car to avoid police checks.

On the morning of NAV’s strike, he was standing in a tram station, from where the officers took him in handcuffs. Interestingly, he had an additional 1.5 years until his previous case would have expired. Now, he must go to prison.

Members of the gang lived a luxurious life having hundreds of millions of HUF in cash at home and, for example, watches worth tens of millions of HUF. In finding the cash, Cappy, the vizsla of the NAV, was extremely helpful since he could smell the hiding places and the money.

The NAV and the police could not find the other member of the crime gang, while his partner

already started to serve his 4-year-long prison sentence

for the fraud he committed in 2011.
