U.S., Britain record worst anti-pandemic performance, says poll
The United States and Britain have handled the coronavirus pandemic poorly, according to a survey released Thursday.
Only 46 percent of Britons and 47 percent of Americans think their government has coped well with the coronavirus pandemic, far lower than Denmark with 95 percent.
They’re the only two countries where a minority of people said the government had done well.
The United States ranked last, with 18 percent saying that the country is more united now after the COVID-19 outbreak.
That is a full 21 percentage points below the next lowest-ranking countries. Germany and France had the second and third lowest score for feelings of unity, where 39 percent of respondents said their country was more united than before.
The United States has reported almost 6 million COVID-19 cases and more than 180,000 deaths, accounting for nearly one fourth and over one fifth of the world total respectively.
The figures come from the Pew Research Center, which interviewed 14,276 adults of 14 advanced economies by telephone from June 10 to Aug. 3.

I have no idea what the Brits did or did not do, but the numbers in the first few paragraphs are like looking at a mountain and saying “I see a rock”. The US has a population of 350 mil. And Denmark, barely 6 mil., for clarification to readers. The brass tacks are…47% of those who approve of how the US did/does in handling this plague, are the same 47% who are not staying home, not wearing masks in public and not social distancing. They are not going to either. It is rather hard to contain the contagion when only half of the populace intend to comply with recommendations. The US Gov. cannot lockup 150 mil. in jail, nor can they shoot them with tanks. Well they could, but I don’t believe they will. If another nation has any helpful ideas on how to corral 150 mil. Into compliance, please send suggestions to the US Congress. Thanks
Poor performance and poor results during the pandemic in the USA are because of the authorities giving bad and confusing information like masks are not helpful, and arrogant Americans that think it is a hoax, or, “I am young and healthy so it won’t hurt me” mentality. Add to that young people that cannot follow instructions, and political opposition to everything.

The numbers cannot be compared.
Did you know that the Covid deaths in the US include those who died of other causes but tested positive for Covid-19?
Hospitals were incentivized to list Covid as cause of death even if the person died of heart failure or a motorcycle accident. That is not the way the US counts seasonal flu deaths normally.
If the data you are working with is unreliable, then comparisons cannot be made.
But, even with the bad numbers, the US death rate per million is far lower than Belgium, UK, Italy, Spain and other EU nations.
