Confirmed coronavirus cases in Hungary rise 1.5 times in single week
The number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Hungary has risen 1.5 times in a single week, with 7,420 people infected, the chief medical officer told a news conference on Wednesday.
Fully 80 percent of Hungarian localities have registered an infection, Cecilia Muller said, adding that this did not mean the remainder were unaffected.
The infection rate in Budapest is 1.5 times higher than nationally, with 888 people per 100,000 inhabitants infected, Muller said.
Since the start of the epidemic, 21 percent of total infections have been in the 40-49 age group, while 15.1 percent were over the age of 65.
Fully 4.4 percent were children.
The mean age is also climbing: 45.7 in week 44 compared with 44 years in week 43, while the number of people under the age of 15 has increased by 770 in a single week, she added.
In the last four weeks, a quarter of new cases impacted the 40-49 age group.
Fully 1,165 cases per 100,000 inhabitants were confirmed among 20-29 year-olds, 935 in the 30-39 age group, 1,120 of 40-49s, and 1,038 in the 50-59 age group, Muller said. There are 1,127 patients per 100,000 people in the 60-69 age group, while there are 1,040 people over the age of 80, she said.
Out of the 90 deaths confirmed on Tuesday, the youngest was 28 and the oldest 99, the chief medical officer noted.
