Racing cars and other oddities are available at the tax authority’s online auction
What could be more extreme than driving on the streets of Budapest with a Porsche, Tesla or Crossover? Still, it is not unsolvable; at the online auction website of National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) one can get these now.
For more than ten years, the tax authorities have been selling assets at online auctions that they seized due to public debts and customs and criminal proceedings. The supply covers a wide range of movable and immovable property. Approximately EUR 4 million (~HUF 1.47 billion) of NAV’s EUR 5,52 million (~HUF 2 billion) auction revenue last year – 5% more than in the previous year – was generated by more than twenty thousand online bids. On the online auction page, current and future auctions are listed separately.
Among the advertised bids, there are two Formula-Renault 2000 racing cars, both manufactured in 2002, at a starting price of EUR 69,000 (~HUF 25 million);
and a Formula BMW racing car manufactured in 2005, with a bid starting at EUR 27,6 (~HUF 10 million).
For a more visual experience, check out how such racing cars were ridden in the heart of Budapest at the Great Race in 2019.
So far, these cars are only in the so-called Announced Auctions category for NAV; bidding will be held at the end of January – reported by Telex.
Besides several types of alcohol – whisky, vodka, absinthe, gin, Metaxa, liqueur, Jägermeister and Unicum – one can find some useful items for New Year’s Eve as well. By way of example, electronic household appliances are also available at the auction, including iron and built-in oven.Â
Surprisingly, the most expensive items are not the racing cars: for EUR 138,000 (~HUF 50 million), a Lewa 1 XRC industrial welding robot is also on the list of offers
along with several other expensive products above EUR 27,600 (~HUF 10 million), such as a well-drilling machine mounted to a depth of up to 200 meters.

In addition to movable property, NAV also sells business shares and real estate. The starting prices for the former range from EUR 519 (~HUF 188,000) to EUR 225,700 (~HUF 81,750,000). There are currently 73 items on the list of properties.
If someone has enough money to spend on real estate in a seemingly meaningless way, there are two options: in the village of Borsod, NAV also auctions two road sections. The starting price of one “taken road” is EUR 447 (~ HUF 162,000), the other EUR 1,783 (~HUF 646,000), the area of both is about 3000 square meters.
And if that is still not big enough, the most expensive item on the NAV auction list at the moment is the air-conditioned real estate complex of Mayaland Playhouse and Family Day Care in Győr (without the functional objects of the building).
Together with the plot, the total starting price of the property of more than a thousand square meters is EUR 316,366 (~HUF 114.6 million).
