Free Wi-Fi hotspots in all communities by 2018?
Budapest, April 5 (MTI) – Hungary’s government is drafting a plan to put free Wi-Fi hotspots in every Hungarian municipality by the second half of 2018, business daily Vilaggazdasag said on Tuesday.
The development ministry told the paper about the plan after completing a survey of existing hotspots at state and local government institutions. It wants to put at least one indoor and one outdoor hotspot with free broadband Wi-Fi in every town.
The hotspots are part of a larger effort to make broadband internet available to all Hungarian homes by 2018.
About 883,000 homes in Hungary still have no broadband access, but some 68 billion forints (EUR 217.6m) in European Union grant money and 10 billion forints in credit is available to support its expansion.
The government implements a Jobbik’s proposals. the right wing party has raised this idea of ​​election campaign in 2014.
